Say Hi to the Scott Family! 🎄

Hello my dear and beautiful ones! God bless you and welcome to the blog! My name is Ryan Scott, and as you can see in the photo above I have a adorable little family with my wife Hillary and our pupper Ada! What you don't see in the photo is our two Cats, Stormy and Sofia (because neither of them agreed to the photo-shoot.) Maybe next year??? (probably not)

Hillary and I met at the age of 35, single, working through our own trauma's and challenges, and dedicating our lives to Christ through our church. Within 6 months of meeting we were engaged and a year later, married!

I like to say I am a pretty ordinary guy. I make mistakes, I quickly lose steam with my yearly bible reading plan about a month or two in, and despite thinking about Jesus and God constantly, I NEVER feel like i'm doing enough to advance the kingdom of God on Earth.

I remember before we got married, when I was still living alone in an apartment, I had a day where I prayed like 10-15 times in one day, I read my Bible, I walked and talked with God, I read supplementary Christian literature (probably something from John Mark Comer) and laid down for bed thinking:

"Why am I so lukewarm right now?"

That's crazy right? Or at least it feels like it, however this is me coming off my first year truly living in alignment with God. That fire of the first year was something so special, and in my brain I thought, whelp the honeymoon's over (my real honeymoon wasn't for 3-4 months later), I guess this is just another hobby that has burned out for me.

However after reflecting on that time I learned some things:

  1. The love of God is eternal and everlasting. Just because it may not feel the same on day one as on day fifty, doesn't mean its not consistent permanent and real.
  2. I am a harsher judge than God. God is forgiveness and love and grace and kindness, and I couldn't be any less of those things for myself.
  3. God divine purpose for us takes time! I always want everything now, answers, assurance, success, growth but I'm not on my schedule, I'm on God's perfect timing!
  4. Enjoy the moment. God wants us to enjoy where we are right now, resting in His spirit. We can easily be manipulated by time, it feels like we have an eternity here on Earth but our time is limited.
  5. Help Others! Rather than spending my days wasting away (which still happen often btw) I should be spending my time with God, family, friends, meaningful hobbies, helping the sick and poor, helping animals, saving the planet (Go Green!), spreading the gospel, and giving up my time to those less fortunate than me.

I'm sure I have more that I've learned but again, I'm an ordinary husband, dealing with the mess of life, trying to pay back the God of the Universe who I owe everything to (That's a story for another post!)
